The IRS uses accredited 3rd party providers as a gateway for tax payers. For a small fee tax returns are being routed through these gateways to the IRS computer systems. Tax Payers cannot directly file their return into the IRS computer systems. Several options are available for eFile. Turbo Tax and TaxCut offer the service through the software packages as well as through their online services. There are also a whole bunch of online providers (example: Tax Brain and TaxAct) who allow you to prepare your tax return online and to file it instantly. In addition to online tax filing these service providers offer affordable loans in the amount of the expected tax refund. Many people use this kind of service to pay off credit card bills occurred through the Christmas season. This is not always the best way to handle a tax refund, but it can at least swap expensive credit card debt with a short-term tax refund loan.
Overall tax season can be very stressful. We highly recommend to file early and not to wait until the mid of April. Even if you owe taxes several providers allow you to schedule the necessary payment and will transfer the owed tax amount from your funds to the IRS on the day specified by you.
