Restaurant Review Miyama Japanese Steak & Sushi Bar

by AboutHR on May 2, 2010

Just outside of Highlands Ranch is a great Japanese Restaurant – the Miyama Japanese Steak & Sushi Bar. The restaurant is located in the Lone Tree Entertainment District – just south off C470 when taking the Yosemite exit. If you plan on eating there it is highly recommended that you make a reservation upfront. From the moment you walk in the restaurant you know this is a good place to eat. The atmosphere is different from all these boring chain restaurants around here. The restaurant is managed and owned by Seishi Ihara who has a lot of restaurant experience and at one point decided to open his own restaurant – right here in Colorado.

You can choose from between several different meals, however the main difference is to either eat Sushi or Teppan – Yaki. I prefer the Teppan. At a Teppan table the meal is prepared right in front of you by one of their experienced chefs. This is cooking and entertainment at the same time. The chefs not only know how to cook, but also how turn the cooking and food preparation into a show fun to watch. It turns out to be something special every time you go there.

I have been to Miyama 4 times so far and always found the food and the experience excellent. This last time I had the New York Steak & Lobster. Each Teppan meal comes with a Shrimp Appetizer, Soup, Salad, and a choice of White or Fried Rice. You also get Vegetables and then as dessert some Ice Cream. Plan for somewhere between 90 – 120 minutes for your dinner experience, but I can tell you that the time is flying because you will be busy watching and eating. Speaking of eating – I really like this restaurant because the eating experience is a little slower, giving you plenty of time to chat and to enjoy the evening. In the end you also do not feel rushed out the door. Seishi Ihara and his team know how to make a difference.

Last Friday we took guests from out of town to Miyama and they were so excited about this dining experience that we made another reservation for next week instantly (our guests are staying long enough with us).

The service we received so far has been excellent. The staff is very friendly, the drinks are good, and the food has always exceeded our expectations. Last Friday we could not find a babysitter for our 5 year old son and so we took him with us. The menu does not really have something for picky eaters uncomplicated kids of that age (our son is not into steak and seafood just yet) and so be brought some food from home. The staff at Miyama took care of this for us with no hesitation and warmed up his meal for us.
