Independence Day 2006
We woke up to great sunshine on this July 4, 2006. America would be celebrating its 230th birthday today and Highlands Ranch would celebrate the 25th anniversary of the first families moving in. The festivities were located in and around the new Highlands Ranch Town Center. We missed the parade in the morning though. You just can’t plan on the minute with a baby around. Baby and family first. Anyway – shortly after 10.00 AM we arrived at the Town Center and found it to be crowded already. We decided to park at the Home Depot parking lot just to the west in the Town Center. This was a good decision. We found a good parking spot just 3 minutes away from the actual Town Center festivities.
The place was packed with people. Some Carnival type of attractions for the kids were in place including a small petting zoo. I got to say – the community association did a really great job. We had a lot of fun at the town center. Only two small items we thought could have done better. 1) The music was good, but we were missing a little more enthusiasm. Not sure if a one-man show was the best thing to have. But the guy fit in over time and when we left more people were watching and listening. 2) A couple more food stands would have been great, too (and less political parties). Anyway – the attractions for the family were good and we enjoyed our time.
