Highlands Ranch Residents not alone to oppose CCU
Colorado Christian University is planning a new campus within Highlands Ranch. The campus shall be build on land that is currently designated as Open Space. There is a lot of outcry about this plan. The loss of Open Space and the increase in traffic are only 2 items mentioned. There are quite more reasons why CCU should not be allowed to use Highlands Ranch Open Space land for their new campus.
Even though CCU plans to build in Highlands Ranch, the mayor of Castle Pines North is also raising her voice against the project. The planned location of the campus would definitely affect Castle Pines North as well.

Mayor Maureen Shul, who will leave her post this month as mayor-elect Jeffrey Huff takes over, came out against Colorado Christian University’s plan to build on 100 acres of Highlands Ranch open space adjacent to Castle Pines North and just south of Rocky Heights Middle School. The university plans to close its campus in Lakewood and build new facilities on land that was recently acquired by the Highlands Ranch Community Association as part of a long-term deal with Shea Properties.
Shul contacted CCU officials in the hopes of convincing them to consider an alternative site and said she was “encouraged by their openness.” The mayor said university representatives recognized the potential noise and traffic impacts on the community. She added she will fight to protect and preserve the community’s interests.
Some Highlands Ranch residents have taken up the “fight” against CCU. Please visit their website. You can find pictures of what we as residents of Highlands Ranch would lose if CCU gets their way.
