The day turned out to be perfect in almost anyway. The weather was just right for a good Oktoberfest celebration. And the Highlands Ranch Community Association had done a great job organizing the 2007 Oktoberfest in Highlands Ranch. The Highlands Ranch Town Center was transformed into a party with German-style food and German Beer. A few carnival type attractions were there to provide entertainment for the kids (of almost any age). And the people of Highlands Ranch showed up in quite some numbers. During dinner time the waiting lines for food and beer were quite long and if you were hungry you had to wait for 10-15 minutes before being able to place your order. But overall we think it turned out to be great.
However, we would like to make a few suggestions to make the future Octoberfest’s even better. Provide a little more variety of German food and beer. 2 different kind of beers do not reflect what Oktoberfest really has to offer. Provide some more authentic German food. Helga’s German-style catering service is doing a good job, but a) their variety seems to be kinda limited and b) some of the foods provided are Americanized and do not represent real authentic-style food. “Currywurst” is not the typical Oktoberfest food. Really! The pretzels looked like German-style “Laugen-Bretzel”, but did not even come close to the original. This shall not be criticizing the HRCA, but rather be a suggestion to eventually work with the vendors and do some of your own research upfront as well. The more authentic and better researched, the better the Highlands Ranch Oktoberfest will be and more people will come.
