Highlands Ranch Backcountry – A Big Failure?

The more people I talk to about the Highlands Ranch Backcountry Development (located just off Wildcat Reserve Parkway), the more I get the impression that the development is a big failure. One might blame the economy and that is probably partially true, but many are actually pointing something out that really sticks. Are you going to spend half a million Dollars and upwards just to get a cookie cutter house with no land around your house at all? I mean look at it – the houses that are visible from Wildcat Reserve Parkway are so close together – one can almost touch the neighbors house when reaching out the window. It almost looks like there will never be sunshine between the houses because they are so close together. The actual houses look nice, but for that price you are buying into a neighborhood that could turn into nosy neighbors paradise.

Sure, the more houses the builder can squeeze onto the land, the more profit they make. It seems like that this might work with the cheaper developments, but when people are spending $500,000 (base prices are starting in that range) or more they should expect a little more. It’s not all about the house and more space and more features, but for that kind of money many buyers expect a little more land around the house, too. The houses in the Backcountry Development are so close together, that it feels cheap just by looking at it. Will you go cheap at half a million Dollars or more? I have heard voices where people shy away from the new development and rather buy somewhere else (including already existing neighborhoods) where the builder left some space between houses and a backyard is really a backyard.
