If you are looking for Mexican food, many folks stop by Chipotle or Qdobas. But that is Americanized Mexican Style Food in my opinion. Personally I am a big fan of Haciendas Colorado just east of I-25 near Lincoln in the Meridian Business Park, but for a more authentic experience there is a small restaurant right here in Highlands Ranch.
The El Meson Mexican restaurant on Town Center Drive (near Santa Fe) is a small, hole in the wall type Mexican eatery. You do not find fancy meals like you do at Hacienda Colorado, but you will find a great, down to earth restaurant. The menu offers a large variety of Burritos, Fajitas, Tacos, and Nachos and whatever else you can think of. The kids menu is a good option for those young ones they do not like Mexican food just yet. However, I was surprised to see my 5 year old munching away on Chips and Salsa when we went there for dinner last night. The Salsa was medium spicy and that is usually not something he goes for. Anyway, you can also enjoy signature Margaritas at El Meson as well as other “grown-up” drinks.
The food is plenty and delivered quickly to the table. The staff has always been friendly when we there and we never had any reason for complaints. The prices are down to earth as well. Last night I paid less than $30 for 3 meals and 3 sodas.
My Conclusion: Family restaurant, nice atmosphere, good service and excellent food
