A Breakfast at "The Egg and I"
Mother's day was upon us. Our son decided to wake up early (very early) and to let us know that he is awake. So, we decided to get a good start into Mother's day with a breakfast at the "The Egg and I" restaurant. Since the restaurant is conveniently located not too far away from where we live, we would have no problems getting there early. We arrived at arround 7.20 AM and found it already quite busy. The restaurant was not crowded, but a large portion of tables were already occupied.
We got a nice table in the center section the moment we arrived. The hostess was very friendly and helpful. She made sure we got a high chair for our son, too. The waiter arrived moments after we were seated and breakfast was on its way. We ordered the "Vive la France" and the "Veggie Benedict" breakfast. We also got two different flavors of coffee at no extra charge (regular and Hazelnut).
While we were waiting for the meals to arrive the restaurant filled up to capacity. But - the service did not lack in quality with the waiters being more busy. After about 10-15 minutes our breakfast meals arrived. Everything was hot and fresh prepared. This is not the typical greasy breakfast stuff you get at iHop or Denny's or many other breakfast restaurants. The breakfast at "The Egg and I" is a couple of classes better than other restaurants - without paying a major increase in price. The quality of the meals was very good. The Bacon was crisp and the eggs were very tasty. The French Toast I had was delicious and the Veggie Benedict my wife had was awesome according to her words.
The owner of this Egg and I restaurant stopped by for a quick smalltalk and to check how breakfast was. The atmosphere was very friendly and relaxed and the caring of the owner did underline that.
Once we were done the waiter brought the check and cleaned up the table a bit to make it more convenient for us to finish our coffee. We left the tip at the table and went to the front to pay. The place was packed. Several groups of people were waiting to get a table and many more were coming inside. The hostess took the names and let people know that the expected waiting time was about 35-40 minutes at this point (shortly after 8.00 AM). We paid (~ $25.00 including tip) and left. Thanks to the team working at the "Egg and I" restaurant for giving us a great breakfast experience.
